A different kind of handyman
Hi, I’m Ernie, owner of Improvements Handyman. I have a background in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida and spent more than a decade in research and development for medical devices, where solving problems and finding practical solutions were part of everyday life.
Long before starting this business, woodworking was a hobby. I also volunteered to build, repair, and paint homes and worked as an irrigation technician. That combination gave me an unusual toolbox for handyman work: structures, mechanical systems, water flow, materials, repairs, and the details behind why something is—or isn’t—working.
I started Improvements Handyman to take ownership of my work, solve interesting problems, build things with my hands, and leave someone’s home a little better than I found it. And frankly, I enjoy meeting people. Every house has something different to figure out, and every customer has a story. That makes this work fun.

We had two 36-inch solid wood French doors leading into a back room. Because of their size, they swung into the room and took up a significant amount of usable space, making the room feel much smaller than it actually was. We had a vision of converting them into sliding doors using pocket-door style rails, but the space wasn’t suited for traditional barn doors because we needed privacy on both ends when the doors were closed. We didn’t have every detail figured out, just the concept. From the very beginning, Ernie invited me into the creative process. He listened to every idea, welcomed collaboration, and approached every challenge with a solutions-oriented mindset. He didn’t simply build what I described; he improved on the vision and brought it to life in ways I hadn’t imagined. The end result wasn’t just a set of sliding doors, it was a masterpiece. It looks intentional, custom-designed, and perfectly complements the quality and style of our home. The craftsmanship is exceptional, the attention to detail is outstanding, and the finished product exceeded every expectation. Beyond his talent, Ernie is simply an outstanding person to work with. He is professional, honest, dependable, and committed to doing things the right way. His pricing was extremely competitive, and the quality of his workmanship is second to none. There is absolutely nothing I wouldn’t trust Ernie to do. If you want someone who takes pride in their work and delivers results that exceed expectations, we recommend him without hesitation.
“Ernie was very nice, knowledgeable and respectful. He got the work done quickly and at a fair price. Would highly recommend!!
“Great worker, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, goes above and beyond. You can’t go wrong by using this guy.
“Excellent job painting our two front rooms! Detailing and professionalism on display at all times! Thanks again Ernie!
“Ernie did a great job with hanging our curtains and chandelier. He also installed and hooked up our washer and dryer when we moved in. Everything was handled with care and cleaned up before he left. I would definitely recommend him.
“Needed my attic doors replaced, small patch work on a few areas drywall / ceiling and my attic insulation replaced where it fell down from new roof. Prompt responses, very helpful, creative and great work. He created a one of a kind attic door for me that looks like an antique picture. I plan to hire him for more repairs in the near future. Very personable and informative.
“10/10 great service and super knowledgeable. Was able to install a water line to my fridge without any issues. Mounted our TV and threaded the wires through the wall so there’s no ugly wire mess. Can’t wait to have him work on some cabinetry as well. Fair priced and reliable. Would recommend to anyone looking for a highly skilled professional handyman.
“Prompt, efficient, timely, courteous and was extremely pleased with outcome of job.
